Parcels, Inc. has been a thriving
Delaware company since 1980, providing the legal and corporate
communities with a wide range of integrated outsourced services.
Parcels began operations as a downtown Wilmington, Delaware,
delivery service with just a few clients. Delaware Document
Retrieval, Inc., (DDR) was formed soon thereafter, and the symmetry
between the two divisions, one delivering legal documents and the
other researching and retrieving them from the courts, increased the
efficiency and effectiveness of both.
The small staff focused on being the best - immediate
responsiveness, 100% accuracy, speed, and flexibility according to
the client's needs - and, little by little, the company gained the
respect of major law firms in Wilmington and throughout the state.
Law firms began to entrust more of those "non-legal" functions in
their organizations to a company that could do it more efficiently
and with fewer headaches for their administrators and staff.
The Courier and Document Retrieval services grew rapidly during the
1980s in the ever-expanding Delaware legal landscape. Offices were
established in Dover and Philadelphia in response to clients'
requirements for faster, more efficient services there. Parcels'
staff grew proportionately and developed into a strong team of
bright, reliable and dedicated people, competent in each of
the various courts and government offices, and able to perform a
variety of functions in each of the three locations. Cross training
became the standard for Parcels, providing deep staff for full
coverage while making the job more diverse and interesting for the
staff.
It wasn't always smooth sailing for the company, but Parcels
survived. The 1997 fire that destroyed the Delaware Trust Building,
where operations were located, could easily have destroyed the
company with it. But sheer determination, gutsy management, and 200%
effort on the part of each and every employee won out in the face of
incredible odds. Immediately following the fire, the Parcels
management and staff still felt their first priority was to their
client, and went to extraordinary means to assist in the disaster
recovery efforts of law firms located in the building.
With thoughtful anticipation of the electronic innovations that
would undoubtedly affect the legal world in the coming years, the
Virtual Docket division was launched in 1998. The company invested
in high-speed scanners and high-end software, as well as in-house
technical expertise; and, taking advantage of the knowledge and
experience of its court research staff, began making Delaware Court
docket sheets and documents available online at
www.virtualdocket.com,
well in advance of the Federal and State Courts CM/ECF systems. Since
its inception, Parcels/Virtual Docket’s equipment and technology
staff have consistently upgraded and expanded to provide a full
complement of necessary e-services to the legal and business
communities: EDD/ESI processing, high-volume digital imaging, OCR,
complex litigation management…
In 1999 Parcels expanded its duplication capabilities with the
introduction of a full-service Copy Center to handle the
ever-growing demand by law firms for fast turnaround, high-volume
litigation copying and service list fulfillment. Shortly thereafter,
the Facilities Management division was formed, placing teams of
Parcels people - with expertise in mail room management, copy and
imaging and general office services – at various law firms on a
contractual basis, relieving the firm staff of non-legal functions.
MetroColor, a thriving color production company in Wilmington, was
purchased and incorporated into the Parcels family of services in
2002. Not only did this venture enable Parcels to better serve the
legal market, particularly in the production of trial exhibits, but
it opened the door to a diverse customer base in the corporate
marketing and
advertising arena.
Parcels continues to stay current with the technology, to upgrade
equipment and training, and to add related services as the client’s
requirements expand or change. With a large staff in Wilmington, and
satellite offices in Dover and Philadelphia, Parcels is always on
hand, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, to immediately
respond to the client’s requests.
Today, Parcels' clients include law firms, banks, corporations,
advertising and graphics companies, small businesses and non-profit
organizations. Many companies have been able to down-size their
internal peripheral services because Parcels' integrated services
have proven to be dependable and cost-effective. Throughout its
history, however, the owners, management and staff continue to focus
on providing extraordinary service to its clients.
